Dress Code
- Jeans or appropriate long pants.
- Cowboy boots — must have a boot heel.
- Long-sleeve shirt with sleeves rolled down. Buttons and collar are not required.
- Hats and helmets are optional.
- No ball caps or visors.
Tack
- Horses must be saddled and shown using appropriate western tack.
Event Entry
- Payment is due at the time of entry submission, and all fees must be paid in full prior to competing.
- Stalls, sessions, exhibitions, RV spots and other non-class items are sold through the GFB online entry store.
- All class entries are made via saddlebook.com.
- Processing fee: $8 per rider, per day.
Refund Policy
- Refunds for pre-paid stalls, electric, sessions, exhibitions & pre-entries are issued less the daily office fee and less 10% of the total.
- Absolutely no refunds will be issued for any reason after the deadline has passed.
- Refund deadlines change by event — see the specific event details page.
Insufficient-funds checks will be charged a $35 service fee.
Late Entries & the Pre-Entry Draw
- Late entries are accepted for each event; opening and closing deadlines vary by event — verify times on the event details page.
- The pre-entry draw is posted online no later than 11:59 PM the Wednesday prior to the event at GoForBrokeProductions.com.
- Pre-entry spots may be sold.
- Horse/rider changes must be completed in the show office based on the deadlines shown in each event's details.
- A horse in the pre-draw cannot sell their spot and re-enter the race to gain a different draw position.
- The draw is a random draw — no preference is given to place horses/riders in a specified order.
Competition Rules
- Horses must be run in the position drawn. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. Running out of turn in a manner that affects other contestants in a drag may result in disqualification.
- It is your responsibility to verify your drawn position. Any changes or corrections after online posting will be posted online with the late draw and noted on the official's sheet.
- It is your responsibility to check in with the gate official and be in the holding pen/area (as defined by the gate official) before the gate closes and the tractor shuts off for your set of 5.
- Every effort is made to give each contestant fair and ample time to enter the arena, at the discretion of the announcer and gate crew.
- We reserve the right to scratch a contestant for failing to begin their run after 3 gate calls or 3 minutes, or if their efforts to enter pose a safety issue to others in the holding area.
- You may circle in the arena prior to your run, limited to 3 circles and subject to the 3-minute rule above.
- Only one horse may be in the arena at any time during competition.
- Drags occur every 5 runners, regardless of scratches or turnouts in the set of 5. Big drags take place following #50 for each class.
- A horse may not be shown by more than one person in a class unless both contestants are members of the same immediate family residing in the same household (husband, wife, children and grandchildren 21 & under) and neither is showing any other horse in that class. In no case will the same horse run more than twice in the same class. If a class is IBRA-approved, only one person may earn IBRA points on that horse.
- Contestants receive no time for knocking over a barrel, losing forward momentum or breaking the pattern. A rider given no time may complete the pattern but may never circle a barrel twice.
- At the discretion of the announcer or gate official, a rider may be asked to leave the holding area or arena immediately for taking excessive time to train or creating an unsafe situation.
Re-Runs
A re-run may be granted at the show officials' discretion for a timer malfunction, outside interference (e.g., a dog or loose horse in the arena), a barrel not placed on its marker correctly, or other situations deemed fair and prudent. Re-runs are made on a fresh drag at the end of the class, or on a fresh drag immediately following your set (rider's choice). Any penalty on the original run does not carry to the re-run; however, any penalty on the re-run applies and results in a no time.
Show officials' decisions are final.
Aged Classes & Side Pots
- When a sanction (NBHA, IBRA, BRF, etc.) requires separate Youth/Adult/Masters/Senior classes, those aged classes draw together as one class but are placed separately by age division. You may enter any aged class without entering the main open race.
- A carry-over / roll-over time comes from the preceding class. Entering the Futurity or Derby plus the open or any additional side-pot classes is a roll-over.
- Youth, Adults, Masters & Seniors pay out in a 4D format, ½ splits.
Age Divisions
- Youth: 18 & under based on your age as of 8/1 (IBRA season year). NBHA Youth: 18 & under as of January 1 for NBHA sanctions.
- Adult: 19–49, determined by your age as of 8/1 (IBRA season year).
- Master: 50 & over, determined by your age as of 8/1 (IBRA season year). NBHA Senior: 50 & over as of the day of your birthday for NBHA.
- If a show is co-approved IBRA/NBHA you could fall into two age categories — contact the show office if unsure.
Futurity, Derby & Pole Bending
- Futurity side pot pays 2D (1-second splits). Futurity age is 5 & under as of November 15. A horse may never "futurity" more than one season.
- Derby side pot pays 2D (½ splits). Derby age is 5–8. A derby horse has completed one futurity season or is past age 5, and may have two or more derby seasons depending on the age it competed in futurities.
- Pole bending: 2D format, 2-second splits. 1 down pole = +5; 2 down poles = a no time.
Sanctions
- We sanction with many associations for contestant benefit — examples include BBR, WPRA, BRF, IBRA, PEWC and NBHA.
- You are responsible for paying your membership directly to the association prior to competing.
- Results are turned in to sanctioning associations within 10 days of event completion.
- It is your responsibility to verify with the association that your points, money earned and qualifications are correctly accounted for.
Payout Guidelines
- A completed W-9 form must be on file before we can issue any winnings — required regardless of contestant age or amount won.
- If a "D" does not fill, we reserve the right to adjust payouts to fairly and adequately disburse the jackpot at our discretion.
- 100% advertised added-money payback.
- Minimum of 75% payback of the entry-fee jackpot.
- Classes approved with IBRA, NBHA or Bonus Race Finals have applicable run money/sanction fees deducted from the base entry fee. (Example: $60 EF − $2 IBRA × 25% = $43.50 jackpot.)
- Checks are void after 60 days — it's your paycheck, take it to the bank!
- We will not re-issue checks for lost, misplaced, washed or other negligence.
- Checks not picked up at the show are mailed if we have a W-9 on file. To ensure prompt mailing, make sure your address in SaddleBook matches your W-9.
Event Disclosure & Terms of Entry
Event Participation
You are responsible for reading, understanding, and following all event rules and regulations. Participation in equine or domesticated-animal events involves inherent risks that you voluntarily accept. Go For Broke Productions (GFBP), its staff and associates are not liable for any accident, injury, theft, death, or property damage while attending, competing, camping, or spectating. GFBP reserves the right to refuse entry to any participant at any time, for any reason. By entering, you waive all claims against GFBP and its affiliates for damages, injuries, or losses incurred during the event.
Event Code of Conduct
Any excessive or abusive behavior toward a horse — including but not limited to excessive whipping, jerking, striking or extreme tuning in the competition arena, holding pen or warm-up areas — will not be tolerated. Violations observed by show officials may result in warnings, fines or disqualification without refund, at the discretion of show officials.
Equine Activity Liability Notice
Participation in equine activities involves inherent risks. Horses may behave unpredictably, which can result in injury, death, or property damage. By attending or participating, you acknowledge and assume the risks associated with equine activities in accordance with applicable state laws, including Iowa Code Chapter 673, Wisconsin Statute §895.481, and the Illinois Equine Activity Liability Act (745 ILCS 47/1 et seq.). Under these laws, an equine activity sponsor, professional, or facility is not liable for injury or death resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities. Participants are responsible for their own safety and the safety of their animals. Proper supervision of minors is required at all times.
Media Disclosure
By entering, you consent to being contacted by email, text, or phone about event updates, results, promotions, or feedback — you may opt out at any time by replying "STOP." You consent to photos and videos taken during the event being used for marketing and promotional purposes (social media, advertising, etc.), and acknowledge that all contestants will be photographed by the official event photographer and/or videographer.
Terms & Conditions
GFBP may update or modify these Terms & Conditions at any time without prior notice. Updates take effect immediately upon posting online or at the event office.
